记者表示，在鲍姆加特下课后，汉堡正在考虑多个新帅人选，范尼也在其中，且俱乐部内部已经进行了讨论。在鲍姆加特于今年2月接手球队前，汉堡就考虑过聘请范尼，当时双方还进行了具体的谈判。

上个月，范尼卸任了曼联临时主帅，期间战绩保持不败。在球员生涯中，范尼在2010-11赛季短暂效力过汉堡一年，期间出场44次，打进17球、助攻3次。
